NORDSTROM HEATS UP THE FINAL ROUNDS!

Freddy Nordstrom Finishes 8th In The 2008 SEAT Cupra Championship.

Teenage racing driver Freddy Nordstrom (Weybridge) had an eventful final two rounds of the 2008 SEAT Championship at Brands Hatch.

The first qualifying session saw Freddy 6th on the grid (just six tenths off the pole sitters time) and keen to go better still in second qualifying. But during the second qualifying session his car dramatically caught fire giving new meaning to the racing term 'going for a hot lap'! Thankfully the fire was speedily put out and damaged caused was able to be remedied before Sunday's races. The time he had set on the previous lap was good enough for 7th on the grid.

Freddy made a good start in the first race, avoiding a spinning competitor before having a tough battle with Daniel Welch. Settling into 5th spot, Freddy was able to keep a storming Andrew Herron behind with the race being red flagged two laps early after David Green had a large off.

In race two Freddy was again battling with Herron but this time the Irishman was to have the advantage. Freddy had to defend his 7th spot from Appleby who made a bullish move on Freddy, evident by scratches and dents on Freddy's passenger door, in a last ditch attempt on the last corner of the last lap but a determined Freddy wouldn't be out manoeuvred.

The weekend's points haul saw Freddy leapfrog two places in the Championship table to finish 8th overall.

It has been a challenging season for the Surrey youngster, initially hampered by technical problems but certainly with these largely rectified he was able to demonstrate his consistency and speed by the end of the season.

"It has been a tough season" said Freddy afterwards. "The obvious highpoint was my 2nd place at Snetterton and as the season progressed and the car improved I was able to show more of my pace. I'd like to thank the Advent Motorsport team for all their hard work this season, PlumberTraing.com for sponsoring me and friends who've been to the races to support me. But an especially large thank you has to go to my Mum for her unwavering support and hard work."

Shortly before the Brands Hatch round the shock announcement was made that SEAT were ending the Cupra Championship. Freddy is already preparing his 2009 season in a different Championship and announcements on his plans and information for potential new sponsors will be available on his website www.freddynordstrom.com.

 NORDSTROM DRIVES UP A STORM

Freddy Nordstrom Posts Two Top Eight Finishes At Silverstone

Teenage racing driver Freddy Nordstrom (Weybridge) put in two storming races in the latest rounds of the SEAT Cupra Championship held at Silverstone.

The double header event saw two very difference races with a dry race held on the Saturday afternoon but by the time of the second race on Sunday heavy rain was on the cards for the famous circuit.

In the first race, Freddy made a strong start from 9th on the grid to make up a number of places. Soon up into 6th place, Freddy had a long battle with Daniel Welch and made a gutsy move on him after the last corner and onto the pit straight. Welch wasn't for relinquishing the place but a determined Freddy kept his cool and squeezed through between Welch and the pit wall. Once past, Freddy set his sights on Martin Byford in 4th place but with just a few laps left Freddy, backed by PlumberTraining.com, had to be satisfied with 5th after an eventful race.

The downpour on Sunday made for an interesting second race. Starting from 9th place on the grid, Freddy fought through the heavy spray to make up 4 places. A lock up saw a quick spin for Freddy but he was soon back on track and an epic tussle between Freddy, Championship leader Robert Lawson and James Appleby followed. As the trio made their way to the finishing line on the final lap, Appleby touched Freddy into a spin, a manoeuvre which was to be penalised by the stewards who confirmed Freddy in 8th place.

The final rounds of the SEAT Cupra Championship will be held at Freddy's 'home' circuit of Brands Hatch on 20-21 September.
