DISASTER IN THE WET FOR NORDSTROM

Freddy Nordstrom's Weekend Brought To An Abrupt End In The Rain Soaked SEAT Cupra Championship

Freddy Nordstrom (Weybridge) suffered a miserable weekend in the latest round of the SEAT Cupra Championship held at Donington Park. The race weekend lived up to having Friday the 13th in its date and was hampered by consistent and at times torrential rain throughout the event.

Misfortune hit the Surrey youngster from qualifying when a mechanical problem with the car proved difficult to pin point seeing Freddy qualifying well down the field, uncustomary for the driver who is usually at the fore of the R Class. However, even with this set back Freddy was confident he could make up places in the weekend's double header event, which would in turn gain valuable Championship points.

Sunday morning saw the Leicestershire race track awash as a heavy deluge hit the circuit. With their first race scheduled at 9.05am it was a grim start to the day which was going to get worse for the unfortunate Nordstrom. As the cars sped to the first corner the spray from the cars was immense creating a murky wall of water and a red haze from brake lights. As the spray settled it was soon apparent a number of cars had spun, collecting others, leading to a chain reaction of heavy impacts including Freddy's HipHipHooray.com back SEAT Cupra R. With severe damage to the front left of his car it was an event ending incident for Nordstrom who had come to the event third in the R Class Championship.

With the first race stopped and restarted, it was some little comfort for the many who could not restart that the now shortened race was only eligible for half points somewhat denting the damage to the Championship hopes of those who were now out of the running. Championship leader, Ian Churchill, like Freddy, was out in the first incident and similarly could not start the second race ensuring the title battle remains open.

"That's been a gutting weekend, my worse case scenario" said Freddy afterwards, "but we have to quickly get ourselves back up and dusted down for the next race in a weekend's time."

The next race is at Snetterton on 28-29th July when all the drivers will be hoping for better conditions and less drama!
