Freddy Nordstrom Takes His First Win of the Season in the SEAT Cupra Championship

Freddy Nordstrom (Weybridge, Surrey) took a sensational win at this weekend's SEAT Cupra Championship event at Rockingham, Northamptonshire though it wasn't all plain sailing for the teenager!

Having never raced at Rockingham before, Freddy took full advantage of the practice sessions and was once again proving himself a front runner in the R Class. This momentum carried forwarded into qualifying for the weekend's double header event. In qualifying one Freddy took R Class pole position by a whisker from the Churchill brothers Ian and Adrian. In qualifying 2 Freddy had to be satisfied with second quickest time of the R Class. Both grid positions put Freddy in strong contention for the races, confirming his position as 'one to watch' amongst the young hot shoes.

As the lights went out for race one and the field sped to the first corner, overall pole sitter Carl Breeze was clipped and spun, leading to a heavy collision with Daniel Welch. The leading R Cupras of Freddy and Ian Churchill approached the melee with nowhere to go, both ending up in the 'kitty litter' gravel safety run off. Though his race over before the first corner, thankfully Freddy's car was relatively unscathed; not so for Ian Churchill whose car suffered damage which put him out of contention for the rest of the weekend.

After the drama and disappointment of race one, Freddy and his the Advent Motorsport team regrouped over lunch, dusted themselves off and were back to make amends in the second race.

With another collision at the head of the pack at the start of race two, Freddy this time was able to find a small gap to avoid the commotion and sped off into the R Class lead. It was a lead that was soon to become unassailable with Freddy setting some stunning race lap times, easily taking the R Class fastest lap of the race.

As the chequered flag fell, Freddy took the win by an outstanding 18seconds. And not content with winning the R Class, Freddy finished hot on the tail of a new Leon in the class above proving that this year's two class series is providing excitement throughout the field for drivers and spectators alike.

"It feels good to get our first win under our belt" said Freddy afterward. "Hopefully bypassing trouble ahead at the race starts won't become a norm but we proved today what we can do when we get passed the first corner unscathed!!"

Freddy's next race is at the Hampshire circuit of Thruxton on 4-5th May, a fast and sweeping circuit that many drivers, including Freddy, favour so the action is sure to be edge of the seat again.
