PAIR OF PODIUMS FOR NORDSTROM
Freddy Nordstrom Takes Two Podium Finishes as the SEAT Cupra Championship Reaches the Halfway Mark.
Freddy Nordstrom (Weybridge) continued to put in fine performances as he raced to two podium finishes in the latest rounds of the SEAT Cupra Championship held at Oulton Park, Cheshire.
The weekend was dogged by changeable weather but this did not dampen the Surrey student's spirits. A strong qualifying session saw him secure 2nd on the R Class grid for both races in the weekend's double header event.
Race One on Sunday morning saw the cars take to the grid with slick tyres when the heavens decided to open. The race was declared wet and all competitors were allowed to change onto wet tyres making the grid a hive of activity.
At the start Freddy fell from second to fourth but soon battled back to 3rd place in a race that saw a number of drivers spin off the wet track and the safety car making an appearance. Through the gloom and spray 3rd place on the podium was a worthy finish and ensured more points in the Championship bank.
By the second race late on Sunday afternoon, the track couldn't be more different - now bone dry! After a trouble free start Freddy found himself stuck behind Tim Bevan, but he made an impressive move that stuck on lap 5 to take 3rd place and began to make inroads on the leading two - the Churchill brothers. As he reeled them in though fate was to stop any fight as the race was reduced to 9 laps from 12 after delays to the day required the race to be shortened.
"Two third places are good and consistent" said Freddy "but obviously I want to win! The title race is still very close but now more than ever you realise every finish and every point counts. The second half of the season will be really exciting!"
Freddy now lies 3rd in the R Class Championship with the next rounds to be held at Donington park (Leicestershire) on 14-15th July.
In the meantime Freddy has another challenge, sitting his A-levels!
